The Super Eagles of Nigeria have become the first African nation to qualify for the FIFA 2018 world cup to be hosted in Russia after beating Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Gernot Rohr started with the same team that played against Cameroon as Alex Iwobi who missed out due to injury was benched.
The home team started on the front foot with Victor Moses missing a swift cross from Simon Moses before an Ogenyi Onazi was replaced with Mikel Agu in the 30th minute.
Alex Ng’onga missed a glorious chance for the away side after finding himself in front of Super Eagles goalie, Ikechuckwu Ezenwa. The first half ended goalless.

Kennedy Mweene saved an almost cetain goal after a Wilfred Ndidi header 14 minutes into the second half before Alex Iwobi was brought in for Simon Moses.
Iwobi handed Nigeria the lead in the 73rd minute after a poor miss from Odion Ighalo.
The home side held on for the win which booked their place in next year world cup.
