House Of Representatives Honours Dr. Olutoye With Standing Ovation For His Rare Medical Feat

The Nigerian medical doctor based in the US that recently achieved a rare medical feat of operating on a 23 week old foetus, Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye was on Thursday honoured by the House of Representatives.

The foetus suffered a medical condition known as ‘sacrococcygeal teratoma’, a tumour, which developed while the baby was still in the mother’s womb.

Dr. Olutoye and his team successfully removed the foetus from the mother’ s womb, performed a surgery on the baby to remove the tumour ‘sacrococcygeal teratoma’ and returned her to the womb again.

The baby grew normally till week 36 and was delivered safely.

News of the medical feat was celebrated in the US and around the world.

Mr. Yakubu Dogara led house of representatives passed a resolution to honour the doctor. They stood and clapped for him for about 30 seconds.

Dr. Olutoye was also recommended by the house for a national honour.
