Sergeant Matthew Elah has been arrested by operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Obehie in Abia State for allegedly snatching a motorcycle from its owner at gunpoint.

The suspect who was attached to the Department of Operations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Police Command, allegedly committed the crime at Umuteke, Akwette in Ukwa West Local Government Area with one Sergeant Isah Alhaji attached to 48 PMF, Ahoada, now at large.

He said Alhaji had asked him to accompany him for an operation without giving the details to him.

“Sergeant Alhaji came to my house at Obehie and asked me accompany him to see somebody, but I saw him with a gun and asked him where he got the gun from and he told me that he got it from armed robbers who were arrested for snatching a motorcycle.

“So, he stopped one motorcyclist, who carried the two of us, but along the way, he asked the man to stop and help him to open one gate while I was holding the gun for him. But he later climbed the bike and zoomed off.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, who paraded the suspect at the Command headquarters in Umuahia, said efforts were in top gear to arrest the fleeing sergeant and recover the stolen motorcycle.
