Suspected cultists on Thursday, December 29 shot dead a Gombe United defender, Uzama Douglas in Benin City, CompleteSports reports.
Uzama becomes the second player from the domestic football league to be killed within three months.
It will be recalled that Shooting Stars defender, Izu Joseph was recently killed.
His close friend, explained that Uzama was on break in Benin City, where he was attacked and confirmed dead on arrival at a hospital.
“He was still on break in Benin City and was yet to resume for the new season,” the friend said.
“He went out with friends when some cult boys carried out an attack against them. He was shot and that was it.
“The killers fled and left my friend in cold blood.”
Management of the Gombe United has also expressed shock over the death of the player.
“The Gombe United family has learned with sadness of the untimely death of our defender Uzama Douglas,” he said.
“This is a sad loss to Uzama’s family, Gombe United and the nation.”
