1.) Democracy Day
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in the early hours of today, delivered an appraisal of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to commemorate the nation’s independent day and two year anniversary of the current administation.
Osinbajo says some of the actions taken by the present government has yielded positive results especially in the fight against Boko Haram terrorism.
2.) Obasanjo Tells Youths To Not Wish Death On Past Leaders
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has admonished youths to wish death on the nation’s past leaders as they still need their mentoring.
Obasanjo made the appeal yesterday, May 28, when he spoke during the Youth Governance Dialogue organized by the Youth Development Centre arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library(OOPL), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
3.) Nnamdi Kanu Addresses Pro-Biafra Crowd Despite Court Order
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu addressed a crowd of supporters, numbering more than 10, in his father’s compound in Abia State.
The address appeared to be a violation of conditions set by Justice Binta Nyako when she granted Mr. Kanu bail in April.
4.) Tunde Bakare Says Another Civil War Is Near
The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, on Sunday warned that Nigeria is on the verge of another Civil War following the yet-to-be addressed incessant killings of other Nigerians by herdsmen.
Bakare declared that the “country is moving towards another collapse” with the division among different groups and violence in the country.
5.) Saraki Says Current Economic Challenge Is A Threat To Nigeria’s Democracy
Senate President identified current economic challenge as the greatest threat to the nation’s democracy and called for concerted and united efforts of all Nigerians to move it out of the woods.
Saraki, in a statement to commemorate 2017 Democracy Day celebration, also thanked Nigerians for their perseverance, patience, understanding and resilience in the face of the current economic challenges, even he assured that better days were near.
6.) Ekweremadu Tells IPOB, MASSOB Sit-At-Home Order Should Be Optional
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu advised that the sit-at-home order declared by some rights groups in the Southeast for tomorrow should be optional.
The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) are behind the stay- at- home call to observe their anniversary.
Ekweremadu who who spoke at an Inter-denominational church service at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, to commemorate 2017 Democracy Day and Governor David Umahi’s second year in office, noted that while the agitation and concerns of the groups were genuine, they should not be pursued with force or other forms of armed struggle.
