1.) Supreme Court Dismisses Sheriff’s Application

The supreme court on Monday, May 22, struck out an application by Ali Modu Sheriff, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asking the court not to hear the appeal of Ahmed Makarfi, national caretaker of the party.

Makarfi had a filed an appeal at the apex court to challenge the judgement of the Port Harcourt division of the appeal court which sacked his caretaker committee and affirmed Sheriff as chairman of the party.

2.) Eric Joyce Alleges Buhari Is Dead

The former British lawmaker alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari who is currently in London for medical follow-up is dead. The former soldier took to his twitter handle to sympathise with first Lady Aisha Buhari over the ‘demise’ of her husband.

Just yesterday, he offered reasons as to why he thought the Nigerian President is dead, he said Buhari was last seen in early May by his staff and that there has been no news about his health condition.

3.) Osinbajo Says Prayer And Fasting Alone Can’t Move Nigeria Forward

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, May 24, cautioned Nigerians to stop thinking it is only prayer and fast that could move the country forward, adding that hard work is essential.

Osinbajo spoke in Abuja during an interactive session organised for public and civil servants on the implementation of the three Executive Orders which he signed last week.

4.) Biafra At 50

In commemoration of the Biafran war, a conference titled ‘Memory and Nation Building – Biafra: 50 Years After’ was held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Thursday, May 25. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo among other eminent Nigerians were in attendance.

Osinbajo delivered a keynote address titled ‘Greater Together Than Apart’ where he explained the country is better united amid renewed agitation for the creation of a Biafra Republic.

5.) FG Okays 29-Man Panel On New Minimum Wage

The Federal Government on Wednesday approved the formation of a 29-member tripartite committee on N56, 000 minimum wage demand.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

6.) Manchester Suicide Bombing

Tragedy struck on Monday evening when a 22-year-old suicide bomber, Salman Abedi detonated an explosive as concert goers began to leave the Manchester Arena where they had just seen pop star, Ariana Grande perform.

Torrents of tributes poured in for the victims. Authorities confirmed that 22 people were killed, 59 injured.

7.) Lagos Terminates Proposed N844bn Fourth Mainland Bridge Contract

The Lagos State Government led by Akinwunmi Ambode cancelled its earlier contract with investors for the proposed N844bn Fourth Mainland Bridge project.

Adebowale Akinsanya, the State Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, at Alausa, Ikeja, explained that the government dumped the former investors to shop for new financiers due to delay in the commencement of the project and are now considering various proposals from foreign investors from the United States of America and Britain, among others, in order to start the project afresh.
