1.) Senator Smart Adeyemi Says Melaye, Tribunal Judge Must Come Clean
Former Kogi West Senatorial district representative, Smart Adeyemi has demanded for thorough investigations into the leaked tape of a conversation held between his successor, Senator Dino Melaye and Justice Akoh Ikpeme.
Adeyemi, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 general election, made the call while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, on Sunday.
The conversation, which some said suggested Melaye bribed the Judge has been trending online after it was first posted.
2.) Senate To Invite CBN, Banks Over High Interest Rate
Senate President Bukola Saraki has said the Senate is concerned about the high interest rates on loans, stating that lawmakers will this week discuss the issue with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Deposit Money Banks.
He stated that in an economy where workers were being retrenched and people were losing investments, it was immoral for certain sectors to be making astronomical profits.
3.) Senator Shehu Sani Discloses Why Osinbajo Is Under Attack
Those attacking acting President Yemi Osinbajo might have been unwittingly creating room for a North-South crisis, Senator Shehu Sani has said.|
Some politicians from the North at the weekend accused the acting president of nepotism in appointments, but the senator said the criticism was uncalled for.
Sani (Kaduna Central) accused the northern politicians “who have suddenly derived the pleasure in attacking the acting president as “hell bent on creating religious and ethnic disaffection among Nigerians”.
4.) Chris Ngige Says He Is Pratising What Ojukwu Taught Him
Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has said he was practising what the late leader of Ndigbo, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, taught them in 1982.
The former Anambra State Governor made this known while reacting to criticisms from Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, over his alleged defence of President Muhammadu Buhari on his lopsided appointments of top political office holders against Ndigbo, further advised that Igbo should avoid placing all their political eggs in one basket by voting wisely in 2019.
5.) Presidency Denies Nepotism Charges Against Osinbajo
The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Legal Matters, Bilkisu Saidu, has dismissed recent comments credited to a faceless Social Media contributor using the name Ismaila Farouk from Zamfara State about appointments made by Acting President Yemi Osinbaj into some federal agencies and the ones done in the office of the Vice President.
Mr. Saidu, regarded as one of the foremost aides to the Acting President said was a law teacher from the Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto, before she was named an SSA in the Office of the Vice President last year.
She described the nepotism charges as simply laughable, untrue, unfair and should not be taken seriously.
6.) Jonathan’s Aide, Three Other Ex-Nigerian Officials Named In $20million Bribery Scandal In Switzerland
Three former top officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority and a former special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan have been named in a massive foreign bribery scandal that has led to the conviction of a company and some of its top officials in Switzerland.
Dredging International Services (Cyprus) Ltd was sentenced to a fine of one million Swiss Francs and asked to refund 36 million Swiss Francs illegal profit after it was indicted for allegedly making illicit payments to a former Managing Director of the NPA, Adebayo Sarumi; a former Managing Director of NPA’s Eastern Ports, Felix Ovbude; a former Executive Director of Finance at the NPA, Abba Murtala Mohammed; and Daniel Afam-Obi, a former executive assistant to Sullivan Akachukwu Nwankpo who was ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s special adviser on technical matters.
7.) Yahaya Bello’s Name Missing On INEC List
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s name has disappeared from the voters register after being accused of double registration.
Bello’s name has been delisted, but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has a photograph showing how he was registered at the Government House, Lokoja.
The commission has raised an investigative committee to unravel the “mystery surrounding the alleged double registration by the governor”.
