1.) Senate Panel Wants Kachikwu, Baru Suspended

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) Senator Tayo Alasoadura has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu and the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru.

He stated that Baru’s continued presence at the NNPC could jeopardise the Senate investigation into the allegations that he allegedly approved contracts to the tune of $25bn without the approval of the corporation’s board.

2.) Nnamdi Kanu’s Residence Raided Again

The residence of the leader of the Indigenious People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu was again raided by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, October 8.

According to Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the soldiers said they were searching for ‘technical items.’

3.) FG To Begin Secret Trials For Boko Haram Suspects

More than 2,300 suspected Boko Haram suspects are expected to appear in court from Monday in an unprecedented series of mass trials that local authorities hope will be seen as evidence of progress in the fight against Boko Haram, one of Africa’s most resilient insurgencies.

All the defendants have been detained since Boko Haram, which means “no to western education”, launched its campaign eight years ago.

4.) Nnamdi Kanu’s Kingsman Wants Him Arrested

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has been asked by the kinsman of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ugochukwu Kenneth, to order the British High Commission and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to arrest and repatriate him (Kanu), from the United Kingdom, to Nigeria, to stand trial.

5.) Sagay Says APC Leaders Are Promoters Of Corruption

The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Anti-Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay has said that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC will find it difficult to convince Nigerians that it is fighting corruption and should be removed given the fact that the party’s officials are promoters of corruption.

6.) Femi Falana Tells Buhari To Vacate His Post As Oil Minister

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has caalled on President Muhammadu Buhari to refer the $25bn contract scam allegations levelled against the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Maikanti Baru, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for investigation.

He also called on Buhari to relinquish the position of the substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources due to the President’s “busy schedule” and appoint another Nigerian of proven integrity and competence to take up the position.

7.) Nigerian Senators Earn More Than Donald Trump, Theresa May

The Initiator and Chairman, Movement for Nigeria’s Total Transformation, Chief Areoye Oyebola, noted that the earnings of the United States President, Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister, Theresa May were far lower than what Nigerian senators earn.

He said it is strange and unthinkable that a senator, not minding the grinding poverty of Nigerians, earns $1.7m a year, which is far higher than the $400,000 yearly income of the United States’ President, whose stupendous country is the richest in the world. Even a member of the House of Representatives also earns more than the American President.
