‘Maina’s Request To Meet Buhari Is An Insult To Nigeria’ – Sagay

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay, says it is an insult to the entire country for wanted ex-pension boss, Abdulrasheed Maina, to request to meet President Muhammadu Buhari.

Maina who granted an interview to Channels TV this week from his hiding, asked President Buhari to grant him audience so he can prove his innocence. Maina in the interview alleged that President Buhari was aware of his reinstatement into the civil service in October and that he has worked with this administration to recover some stolen pension funds.

Reacting to Maina’s request, Sagay in an interview with Vanguard, said Maina should be speaking to EFCC operatives and not president Buhari.

“The whole matter does not justify such ridiculous request. His request to meet with the president is out of the question. If every suspect has a whistle to blow and is therefore taken to the president, I don’t think the president will have any other job to do. Apart from the protocol and status, it is even insulting to the country. He can talk to the EFCC, ICPC and Police and if he wants a higher authority, he can meet with the inspector-general of Police. So, he does not need to get to that level at all because nobody is going to allow that.”

Sagay added that the police would protect Maina who has alleged that there is a threat to his life.
