The list of PFA Premier League Player of the Year has been announced, with Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah seen as the early frontrunners for the honour.
De Bruyne has been a creative force for Man City this season, excelling in a side that will be crowned Premier League champions in the very near future, while Salah has had the campaign of his career so far with Liverpool by chipping in with 28 goals and nine assists.
While it is widely expected to be a two-horse race for the individual honour, the PFA nonetheless announced a six-man shortlist on BBC Sport’s Football Focus on Saturday afternoon. Indeed, champions-elect Man City dominate the proceedings with three nominations, as Leroy Sane and David Silva are also up for the award.
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been given the nod after yet another fantastic season in between the posts at Old Trafford. The Spanish international has kept 16 clean sheets in the league this season as Jose Mourinho’s side look to keep pace with Man City as best they can.

The list of nominees for PFA Young Player of the Year has also been announced, and there is a slight crossover with the fact that Kane and Sane have also been shortlisted for this award.
Competition is likely to be that bit more fierce in this field (though again Man City dominate), with Ederson Moraes and Raheem Sterling also getting the nod along with Man United’s Marcus Rashford.

Interestingly, the sixth candidate comes from the Championship in the form of Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon. The 17-year-old wunderkind has been in sparkling form for the Cottagers this season, scoring 14 goals and creating six more, and it seems almost certain that he will be playing Premier League football next season even if Fulham fail to win promotion this year.
