Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) members have accused Senator Ademola Adeleke of using a fake certificate in governorship primary election and even dragged the Senator to court.
They are asking for the disqualification of Adeleke and to replace his name with Dr Akin Ogunbiyi who became the first runner-up in the initial election.
Idowu Oluwaseun and Rasheed Olabayo (members of PDP) dragged Ademola Adeleke to an Osogbo High court seeking the disqualification of the Senator from the governorship election that was held on the 22d of September 2018. They insisted that Adeleke did not have a minimal education requirement to take part in the election and used a fake document to prove that was qualified enough. However, despite all the expectations of the PDP’s members, the judge referring to the similar case ordered that Ademola Adeleke had the qualification to contest in the election.
Nevertheless, INEC and PDP joined in the recent suit instituted by Ojejade Thomas, Awoosiyan Olalekan, and Awodire Sina, filed before Federal High Court, Osogbo. The demandants, filed before a Federal High Court, Osogbo claiming that the participation of the Senator Adeleke and his win in the governorship primary election as of 21st of July 2018 and participation as PDP’s candidate in the primary election conducted on 22nd September, 2018 are having no legal force due to the reason that the candidate has presented the false information about himself as a candidate and submitted the fake documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission. They insisted the court determine if Ademola Adeleke should be disqualified from the Governorship election under PDP flag due to the alleged submission of the false documents to INEC and inability to meet the constitutional requirement to participate as a Governorship candidate.
The defendants-appellants have only three weeks (21 days) to respond to the reliefs sought by the demandants. The respondents were not silent. The head of legal, Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Niyi Owolade informed that his client, Ademola Adeleke, has been served. He added that this situation is a challenge for Peoples Democratic Party, and he is wondering how serious party members could be talking about the things that have led to the tribunal. Also, Owolade has said that they (he and his defendant) don’t have any issue and all they are concerned about now is their petition before the tribunal. He added that they consider this fresh matter as a part of a plot that nothing but distracts.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reports that the South-South Zonal Auditor of PDP, Patrick Egbede, has laid down the duties from the party and informed that now he supports a political aspirant on the platform of APC (All Progressive Congress). Patrick Egbede addressing the zonal national vice chairman of PDP in his resignation letter as of 25.10.2018 informed about his decision to leave the party for unnamed personal reasons.
The former PDP headman commented the resignation of Egbede was partly due to his support for the political ambition of the nearest State Security Adviser to the Governor of Cross River, Jude Ngaji, who reportedly has intentions to contest the National Assembly on the APC platform.
