1.) Democracy Day

Monday, May 29 marked the country’s democracy and two-year anniversary of the incumbent administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in the early hours of that day delivered a nationwide address to highlight the strides that have been taken in the course of the administration that has two years left.

Recall Buhari has been in the United Kingdom since May 7 for medical follow-up and transferred power to his vice to act on his behalf.

2.) May 30: Sit-At-Home Day

In commemoration of the 50 years of the Nigeria Civil war, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenious People of Biafra (IPOB) declared that May 30 be set aside for a sit-at-home protest.

4.) Osinbajo Grants Lagos State Permission To Reconstruct Lagos Airport

Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, May 31, granted the Lagos State Government, permission to reconstruct the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road from Oshodi which has been in a bad state for some years.

Recall that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had earlier told the state residents at a function that his administration had the money and design for the reconstruction of the road which had become a national disgrace but that the Ministry of works headed by his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola was however hesitant in giving the state the approval to reconstruct the road.

5.) Donald Duke Declares He Still Wants To Become President

Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke on Tuesday, May 30 says he has no in interest running for legislative office as he has no flair for standing up and sitting down at the chambers.

Duke said this at a programme “The Nigerian Symposium for Emerging Leaders” held in Lagos.

“I have contested the presidency before; I will still give it a shot when the opportunity presents itself. I believe I still have the energy in me,” he said.

6.) Coroner Reveals Isiaka Adeleke Died Of Drug Overdose

The inquest constituted by Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola to probe the cause of Senator Isiaka Adeleke said he died of drug overdose.

The verdict which was was reached after three weeks of investigations, was disclosed by the coroner, Mr. Olusegun Ayilara,
on Tuesday, May 30.

He ruled out poison as the cause of death saying no traces of it were found in the deceased’s system according to the autopsy and toxicologist reports.

7.) Senate Confirms 15 RECs

The Senate on Thursday, June 1, confirmed the nomination of 15 of the 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on INEC at the plenary. The remaining nominees are still be screened.
