Kano Sharia Police Prosecute 11 Women For Drinking Alcohol

Eleven women are being prosecuted by the Kano State Hisbah Board for drinking alcohol as well as smoking cannabis.

The women were also accused of engaging in amorous activities with men, who were not their husbands.

But there has not been any report on the arrest of the men, who engaged in alleged amorous activities with the women.

Mallam Salisu Umar, the Hisbah Commander on Special Services, told newsmen that the suspects were caught in the Sabon Gari neighbourhood within the metropolis during a special patrol by the Fegge Local Government Office of the board.

According to him, the state has been practicing the Islamic legal code, which prohibits such illicit conduct.

Umar pointed out that four of the suspects were divorcees while one of them was carrying a three-month old pregnancy.

Umar explained that the suspects had been interrogated and charged to court.

The case has been adjourned till November 14, 2016.
